Amarillo Memories

After college I moved away from Amarillo. I would return to town every once in a while and notice the cityscape changes maybe more noticeably than the natives. Now that I’m retired, I return several times a year.  It’s been interesting watching Amarillo grow.  I’ve always been fond of the city and of course Palo Duro.  I have jotted down a number of recollections.

Click here to read my list and see how it compares to yours. We'll start with these, and I'll add to them soon.

Whittier 1st Grade Silhouette ~1959

I remember a young teachers aid doing this.  She put a sheet of paper on the wall and had a light projector shinning on it.  We would each sit in front of the projector, the image of our head silhouetted on the paper. She or another classmate would then trace around our silhouette. They somehow got that trace onto a 10x10 sturdy piece of craft board. The image was then black and white glazed onto that board. Pretty cool for 1959. My mom kept this in her scrapbook box for years until her death which is when I found it again. I used this as a mouse pad for a long time.  Then it got so greasy that the mouse wouldn't move anymore, so I took a pic of it and cleaned it up a bit via PS.  It's amazing it's in as good a shape as it is.

Let me know if you still have your copy.
