Bobby Nowak Obit

Bobby Nowak, our high school champion, has left us. How could it be that Bobby left us so early, but then again our class is creeping into it's latter days.

Think of someone who made a notable impression on you during our high school days.  If you were sports minded back then, that person was undoubtably Bobby Nowak.  There were some faster, some stronger but Bobby was one of those general purpose sports machines... he could do it all.

In the fall of '69, the Globe News was dumbfounded, the school was honored and the class was exhilarated as Bobby and his team brought respect to PD.  There were many football heroes that year…

I had envisioned sending Bobby off with the remaining choir and band members striking up the school fight song, cheer leaders dusting off their pom poms and surviving Dons huddling for a last time and then doing our classic sweep around right tackle, but now he’s gone.

Looking back, during Jr Hi, those of us at Travis had heard of Bobby’s prowess and were in guarded awe.  We thought of Bobby on the same dread level as Carver’s Jonathan D and Bonham’s Bobby P.   Travis had a good 9th grade team back then.  We all knew that combining Travis, Hoarce Mann and Carver, then merging into PD with him at our helm would make us unstoppable, and we were.

Bobby was the consummate athlete… he was good at everything. Bobby was quick to smile, fun seeking and took on life with an “everything’s fine” attitude, but on the gridiron he was all business.

Bobby… you have our undying gratitude for glorious memories during some of the best times of our life.
