We ain’t finished This shin-ding yet!

The sun is riz,
The sun is set,
But we ain’t finished,
This shin-ding yet!

Hello yet one more time fellow alumni.

Well, the reunion took place as scheduled on 7 August, and if you missed it . . . well I told you it would be the best 40th reunion the Class of ’70 would ever have. The pre-event festivities at Napolis were, I am reliably informed, an exciting time filled with tales of romance and conquest, loud and boisterous outbursts, and the dark fellow who socialized with all the guys, posed with all the women, but no one could place. Hmmmm, was he the CIA or FBI checking up on that crazy bunch from the Class of ’70, or just a gate crasher looking for a good time? No one seems to know. What everyone does know is that the reunion was great! Good food, great company, and the cheerleaders for the fight song were marvelous!

A special thanks to the reunion committee (Beverly Proffit Galloway, Brenda Digby Thomas, Carol Cooper (’69), Carol Fulps Henderson, Cathy Lemons Lockhart, Deanna Wisdom Griffin, Pam Johnson Allison, Shirley Ellis, and Doug Lightfoot) for the hard work they put into this effort. There was a lot of photos and posters from previous occasions that the person-not-in-charge, Cathy Lockhart, had horded over the years for just an occasion such as this. Doug Lightfoot provided a slide show of old yearbook photos and assorted memorabilia that ran during the entire function. Those folks who put such a great effort into the name tags are especially to be commended, if not for the photos on them most of us would have never been able to figure out who we were talking to!

Perhaps the most sincere thanks go out to the 80 plus people who attended and made the event so special. All of the good work and effort the reunion committee put into this would have been for naught had you not taken the time and effort to put in an appearance. Thank you all.

Finally the little ditty that starts this missive. They (whoever they are) say that there is no drunk so bad as a reformed drunk, and I guess the same may be said for first time reunion attendees. This was my first opportunity to see most of you folks since I graduated in 1970. Through this event I managed to rekindle several old friendships and start a few that should have existed many years before now. It requires a lot of effort to keep friendships going, and I, personally, hope that I’m up to the challenge. Facebook has provided an excellent forum for this, and Doug Lightfoot has provided us with another. His blog can be found at http://www.PD70.net/ and provides lots of places for us to sound off. Give it a try. Having said all of this I hope that we as a class are willing to put the effort into staying in contact, meeting in small or large groups along, and keeping the spirit of Class of ’70 alive and well. Let the reunion continue!!
