2026 Blue Sky Classmate Luncheon after Golf Outing (3/22/2026)
It couldn't have been better. ~63 degrees, overcast sky, no wind (yes no wind!), course in top condition, buddies playing their best golf. Many times the whole group would tee off, hitting their ball smack in the middle of the fairway, landing only a few yards apart.
Fun Fact - Ronnie and Suzanne have been married 24 years...congrats!
JC thought he could flip us out with his red Tascosa cap. I wore my black and red logo'ed Dan Reynolds construction company cap, in honor of our fallen classmate.
Ruth (Doyle's wife) handed me her high school scrapbook, so look forward to some of that content coming to this site soon.
The Linda Washington Set Up
Editors Note… I know this is the second year running a Linda
Washington story, but I promise, next year we’ll do someone else. And besides,
who better to do a story about 😊
While driving to Amarillo for this year's golf and luncheon event, I got an idea, so I turned to Teena and told her a story...
Way back in my college days, I used to live on campus at WT with few other guys. We’d never cook, we ate out of sacks, boxes, the school cafeteria or went out. I usually went out to eat. My favorite dinner spot was the Pizza Inn (or was it Pizza Hut can’t remember) on 23rd street (ie. hiway 87 North to Amarillo). On Google maps it now looks like it's a Dominos Pizza, anyway I went there often. They had good cheap college pizza, but I went there especially for the entertainment. That’s where the WT marching band hung out. They were a hoot. Daily they’d meet, a few of them would bring their instruments and they’d just light up. If you sat close you could hear the stories they’d tell. They’d always be laughing. Sometimes there’d only be a few of them, but usually someone from the band was there and it was always a good time. It was a good free college time killer and the situation made a dent on my memorabilia.
One day I called Linda and asked her for a date. She agreed but there wasn’t anything especially going on in Amarillo, so I told her of my pizza party experience and asked if she’d like to go there. She said sure. I knew there was little gamble of going to the Inn with no entertainment there, but it was only a slight risk. So I polished off my red ’70 Chevelle 396 and from Canyon I drove (at 55 mph) to Amarillo, picked up Linda, drove back to Canyon, stepped into the Inn and wouldn’t you know it… no entertainment, not even a drum major. Oh well, we ate and had a good time.
I told Teena all this and she says, nice story, but what’s in it for me, so I told her of my idea.
I said, while chatting with Linda this trip, tell her you two have something in common. Tell her that one of our dates was to the Pizza Inn in Canyon. Tell her of the drive and disappointment we had when we arrived with no band there. She chuckled and said, OK.
So, I was sitting by JC at the luncheon, but I was watching as Teena approached Linda. I saw Teena raise her finger at me indicating she was about to embark on the setup. Teena told her of our supposed date in Canyon. I was watching Linda. When she heard Teena's story she busted out laughing. I could even read Linda’s lips when she asked Teena if the band was there. Teena said "No!" Linda burst out laughing again. Teena winked at Linda and gave her a hug, Linda realized she'd been set-up.
From down the table, Linda turned to me and smiled, then we both started laughing. Beside me, JC looked at me curiously trying to find out what I was laughing about.
Seeing classmates smile and hearing their laughter... Good Times 😊

Classmate Shoots Hole-in-One !
Longest traveled attendees were Bobby T, Surprise AR; Randy T, Dallas TX; Doyle R, Muskogee OK; Danny R, Edmond OK; Doug L, OKC OK.
Star of the event… Clinton C – Who knew that Clinton was that good at golf. We didn’t really compare scores at last years event, so I don’t remember him being that good back then. But this year, Clinton’s score of 80 was bonified by a third party. Steve H came in second at 88. I carted with Clinton and his game seemed effortless. He’d tell me where he was going to place the ball and then just did it. He won the ‘Closest to the Pin Contest’ by teeing off and twice placing his ball within 2 ft of the hole… Amazing!
In talking with Clinton, his favorite subject is cars. He has 4 in his collection. His honey is a ’64 Plymouth Belvedere with a 440 in it. He and Doyle attend car shows together frequently.
It was a little crowded at times at Ross and the wind was very brisk. We all met before the round in the break area, and there we were surprised by Danny R’s arrival (from Edmond). Danny didn’t play, he’s just off a surgery in Boston, but he braved the elements to be with his mates for a short time.
Moment of the Day – after the golfing round, we met for burgers at Blue Sky around 3:30. Bobby T had arrived in Amarillo the day before but he didn’t play golf with us. He told me to keep his presence a secret because he wanted to surprise everyone and especially JC. So… Bobby hid out at Blue Sky waiting for the group’s arrival. Me, JC and Marty were greeting just outside the BS entrance. Out walks Bobby. JC said, who is this? He knew him, but he didn’t know him. I said “Hi Bobby”. JC said.. Bobby, Bobby? I said “Yeah, Bobby T”. A great big grin came across JC’s face. It took him awhile to finally believe it was Bobby T (Bobby lives on a golf course and has an email address of Par4Tar, so surely he’ll join us for golf one of these times).
Memories...
(a couple of the following are rehashes, but at a reunion event like this, the oldies are the goodies)
1. Bobby T, JC L and Marty K’s White House Foosball Team dominance probably around ’73, ’74. Those three were really good at foosball, unbeatable. The new video game that year was Pong.
2.
If you ever get a chance, ask Doyle R about his ’57 Chevy story. It’s a bit long to include here, but it’s
amazing. He should probably have a movie
script made of it.
3. Marty K, Doug L, and JC L Red River 1970 ski trip. We didn’t really ski. We inflated tactor tires. The management didn’t allow us on the slopes during the day, so we went one night. Slid down at 60 miles an hour (felt like), and crashed into the lodge. Great times. The three of us don’t remember the fourth’s guy’s name that went with us, duh :) Returning to Amarillo, we listened to the WHO album Tommy with Pin Ball Wizard and Teenage Wasteland all the way back.
4. Randy T Friday Night
Lights – Randy is a walking sports encyclopedia. He knows more PD sports trivia than anyone. If you get him started about former
PD Coach Wilkins and his later tenure at Odessa Permian during the Friday Night
Lights era, then you’ll hear more insights than the movie had.
5. Marty K's attempt to get Doug L to
come to WTSU (Doug attended Amarillo College at the time) – My grades at AC were poor, but I could bench
press. Marty and I had shared an apartment for a bit and on one occasion he said ‘why are you going to AC?’. I told him I really didn’t know. He said come try out WT… come to one of my
art classes this Thurs at 10:30. We were
both kind of artsy craftsy so I took him up on it. I showed up at an art class room with a stage and curtain (I thought that a little strange), and it was a bit crowed (a crowded art class, go figure). I entered late but could see and waved to Marty across the room. I sat down at the last
remaining desk with paper and charcoal. After a few moments, out from behind the
curtain came a beautiful, completely naked girl. I could go on, but you get the drift. I recanted this to Marty but he could not
recall the episode. How could I forget !!! Needless to say, I graduated from WT.
6. JC L and Bobby T's all PD Flag Football Team - that was together for 6 years. Click to enlarge.
7. Five guys in this picture below were present for this event. Danny, Marty, Dougy, Randy, Bobby.
Notables…
1. Beverly H attending. Four women attended the afternoon meal, but Beverly and my wife Teena had the closest PD ties. The two other women were wives of Amarillo golfing buddies who joined us to make up a foursome.
